Yes, we used to have a guy at the shipyard that would braze cast iron. He’d slowly heat it up almost red got...the whole unit...braze it & then wrap it in huge asbestos blankets so it would cool very slowly. The stuff he brazed...I never saw break again.
On a side note...he’s 90 & still kicking. Used to play with big piles of asbestos daily. Amazing how some folks it just doesn’t seem to affect.
