The spare tire is supported by the mount and Bed Side panel. Here is the link to my site that has several pictures of an 1100x16 XL mounted on stock rim and how I mounted it. I modified an M37 spare tire bar to provide more surface area to prevent distortion of the rim dish, not sure I needed to do that, however it adds some assurance. I use one of the lug holes to mount the rim and that provides 1-1/2 to 2 inches of clearance between the running board and tire to prevent rubbing. So far I can't see any issues with the bed or rim dish and I travel some pretty rough roads, but I also keep my speed around 40mph, the faster you go, the rougher the ride. It is a load lifting an 1100 on stock rim, so I lift to the running board, reposition my arms under the tire, and lift to the stud. Not sure if I could do it if the 1100 is mounted on a combat rim.
