Hi there, everybody! I’ve been absent for a while as all my trucks body parts were at the body shop for what seemed like forever but I am very happy to report that everything is back home and enough of it is back together that I was able to go for a ride around the block with her this afternoon! (What a true and absolute JOY this was)!! Now for the technical stuff and questions: My carburetor is an E7F1 which has been rebuilt (including the leather accelerator pump seal). It, of course, has the integral governor (number 220-6) which was found to be pretty far out of adjustment per the specs that Clint Dixon kindly posted way back in 2010. We adjusted everything so that dimensions “A”, “B”, and “C” are now correct and we have to figure out how to get a tachometer hooked up to get an accurate reading on RPM (or we will have to do the 2nd gear, 18 MPH with 583 gears and 900/16 thing). The engine seems to run pretty well with no load on it but it’s idle is rough and I can affect it by putting upward or downward pressure on the throttle plate shaft where it sticks out of the outboard side of the carb. The main question is: are there actually bushings in the carb throttle plate body that can be changed to tighten up a sloppy throttle plate shaft? Also, if I can get the idle sorted out and I can make my 3200RPM am I finished? Is there anything else I’m going to need to do? Oh, I almost forgot, I borrowed a vacuum gauge and we will check that ASAP. Do I read it correctly that they want it checked both at idle (17”) and at max, no load, governed speed (16”)? Thanks for taking the time to read all of this and I REALLY look forward to hearing from you all!
