You'll here a gear whine 1st through 3rd when accelerating/decelerating, no whine is produced in 4th.
- The chipping can be caused by the 1st or 3rd gear hitting the cluster gear due to worn parts.
- If the shifter half moons are worn, the shifter can raddle. In 4th, slightly push the shifter forward, if the noise stops, that's the problem. You can do a tear down and replace or patch it doing what I did using a lever. Go to the PIF, down to the technical/general section, click the link to Classic Power Wagons, go to transmissions and see the fix.
- The TC can whine depending how you set the preload on the driven gear bearings. If you set at 10-15 inch pounds, expect a whine accelerating/decelerating and a slight whine driving down the road from the TC. If you set the driven gear bearings with no play, TC will not whine.
