Mom got a heart valve 4 years ago at age 86. Doctor's left the decision to her. She chose to go forward with it. Took her 24 hours to come out from the anesthesia. When she did she spoke German to me for 45 minutes until a nurse came in to check on her. When the nurse spoke to her in English my mom turned to me and spoke in in English for the first time and said "They speak English here?" Mom has been stateside since 1957. She celebrated her 90th this last June. The pig valve has been going strong. She also has one of my sisters kidneys going on twelve years. Survived breast cancer. Survived world war 2 Germany as a teenage girl. Loss of her first born daughter to lung cancer and husband to bladder cancer. Best of all due to her pig valve she can find a good truffle like nobody's business.
