Jim, don't wast the time on a leather seal. Joe has pictures of my seal removal in the page. I weld a length of drive line tubing to them and pry them out. If you insist on using leather keep the tool you will use it again.
I soak the leather in oil overnight in a pan on a electric cook top on warm.
After replacing 5 I made and adapter to fit a modern seal and that fixed it.
If you wants some leather seals I have 5 left, in cozmoline.
