I have done exactly what you are proposing, and it works great. The 9.00x20 tire chains are very heavy duty and give super traction. You may want to be extra careful to keep from twisting an axle from the traction you have available. I wouldn't bother putting locking hubs on the rear axles if that is what you asked. A rear locker will very definitely help with traction.
