Rubber impregnated canvas was used between the wood blocks and the body, also under the radiator support. Car tire sidewall also works fine in those locations. Depending on the model, a lot of the body to chassis bolts used a coil spring between the nut and chassis to allow for frame/body flex, the driver side front bolt is usually bigger diameter and no spring, so acts like a "key" and takes flex out of the section that holds the steering box. When the body is in the correct position, you have to align the grille, hood and front fenders to it.
