Jim, look at the differential case that holds the spider gears. It has a screw on cap that should be tight and set with a dowel pin.I had one come unscrewed and that let the spider gears jump teethe when under load. There are also thrust washers that need attention in the diff. It is not too big of a job to replace all of the bearings. Hardest part is getting the bearings off of the differential. If you go that route I can pass on some tricks.
