Thanks everyone for the links and info. Using all these bits of info. along with a rebuild kit sent next day air from Midwest Military. I now have a working starter.

I had to assemble it about five time to get it right. I didn't have the tools to unsolder then re-solder the brushes. Luckily Dino, who does this kind of thing, had the right solder iron to do that bit. This is the first time I've seen a solder iron that dimmed the lights when it switched on. Wow! More like a spot welding machine!

Anyway, I've been freaking out all day not knowing if I could pull this together. Julie keeps coming into the garage "Are we going to make it?" Aargh! Now I feel a bit more relaxed.

And..

A full set of tire chains showed up today as well. Second day air from Vintage Power Wagon! They were out of stock and did a major scramble to make sure I had a set in time for the trip.

Talk about guilt I'd feel if I didn't get the truck running! I have people helping out in all corners!

So, THANK YOU EVERYONE! It looks like we now have at least shot at doing this.
