As mentioned below, a "rest-mod" is more than just an engine and transmission swap. A repower comes with its own pitfalls, such as going faster than the brakes and steering cane handle. The suspension is less than optimal design for high speeds and cornering also.

The correct way to restomod these machines, in my opinion, and for what its worth because I know I have just as many folks that don't care for my efforts as those that do, but everything needs to be considered because a whole is a sum of its parts, and any machine is most probably to fail from its weakest link.

That being said, its a slippery slope. Modern engine wants modern cooling, and a modern transmission, which yields faster speeds, so different tires, which need modern wheels, which also want modern brakes, which work better with modern suspension or different leaf springs which in turn need better designed frame mounts, which yields into modifications or boxing the frame, which can turn into every last little thing is different, and then what do you really have at the end of the day?

I respect a clean original unmolested truck for sure, and they are an awesome experience to drive! But at the same time, whats the function of the truck and where are you going with it? Its a hard line in the sand to draw but its certainly that... if you dip your toe too far into the other side theres a darn good chance you'll fall in. Watch too much Jay Leno or any other TV based show and they'll push you over the edge. The problem with that though, is most people don'r realize the water is freezing cold and they gotta swim for a long time or pay big to get someone to get them out.
