My suggestion would be to wait. There are several reasons I suggest this. For starters, time is on your side. The longer you wait to discover what you really want to do, the less chance you are going to make a snap decision that you may regret later.
You have actually asked the question at the perfect time. Right now is the best time to start planning to attend the most Power-Wagon rallies you can. They will start popping up around the country as the weather warms. There, you will see trucks as you describe - restored, restomoded, and original. Many owners would be happy to let you have a few minutes behind the wheel so you can get some first-hand experience with the different options you have, or at least let you ride along.
If you cannot attend any rallies, start seeking out other collectors in your area who you can talk to in person.
There were so many things I wanted when I was younger and I am glad it took years to get some of them. The wait made the rewards so much sweeter.
