My guess is your differential was at about 130 deg, which is about right for these trucks. You are going to see temps in the 150-160 range on the differentials after an hour of highway driving. The transfer case will get even hotter.

I only recently bought a temp gun, so I don't have a lot of data. On my 6x6 the differentials were at 135-140 deg after 30 minutes at 45-50mph (2500-3000 rpm with 5.83 gears). The transfer case was at 165 deg. The wheel hubs were all at 90-95 deg.

The differentials on my WM300 get too hot to hold onto (150+ deg is a guess) after an hour at 2500 rpm (55mph with 4.89 gears). It has run this way for 30 years, and it seems to be the norm. The transfer case gets very hot (180-200) after an hour at 2500 rpm.
