When I was a kid I spent a lot of time in Elsinore, CA. There is a lake there now, thanks to the modern miracles of swiping water from the Colorado River, as everyone else does, causing it to dwindle to a small stream, but that's not the point.
The lake was dry when I was growing up we actually did stack up tumbleweeds to build forts with. But we didn't need an A Frame (known in less-cool circles as Gin Pole) to lift the tumbleweeds. :) I haven't thought about that for years.
