I'm not ready to take it to someone to get it fixed. It looks pretty simple, so I'd like to at least have a shot at understanding it for myself, if possible. Because, if I understood it, I should be able to pinpoint the trouble. I'm betting the trouble is something I did wrong when I assembled it. I'm just hoping that, through my foolishness, I've not already burned out that bloody huge lump of generator I've put so much effort into.
This is why I'm asking about the field wire and how it works. I'd like to make sure the generator will actually work independently from the regulator. If it does? Then I'll feel better its not damaged, and I'll have found that the issue is the regulator, not the generator.
Through reading stuff in the manuals and these forum posts, I'm starting to get a hazy idea how all this goes together.
And if I don't figure it out? I'll send it off to get sorted. There's always that option.
