most likely reg is acting up. been operating for a long time! Ballard electric will work on it for you. might want to call and see if he wants the gen with it for dialing it in..
the contacts get worn and don't work right or could have a failed winding. the contacts are more sensitive than in a distributor. they need to be filed, then sanded to 1000 grit or higher then polished with magazine paper to function right. you should never have to RE-polarize a regulator once it ahs been done.
