I am old school, but it still works for me. I buy two pairs of surplus military wool gloves, one set full fingers, the other set fingerless. I wear a full finger glove on my weak hand and the fingerless on the strong hand. Over these I wear a pair of sturdy leather chopper mittens. This setup keeps my hands warm in all but the coldest weather, when I switch to extreme cold mittens for the outers, and gives me very good dexterity when necessary by just slipping off the mittens, while still protecting my hands a bit from the cold.
