Probably a combination of many "hits"...curbs covered with snow, frozen burms, etc. It first broke about 4 years ago, then last year, then again this year. I haven't taken it apart yet to see if the weld broke or if it broke next to the weld.
If I remember correctly, it's 1" x 2 1/1" about 12" long. Broke about 1/3 from the base.
