Epoxy typically does not like sunshine. Coating it with paint helps.
Another trick is to use a cheap orbital sander and, using something like 36 grit, sand the wet epoxy and metal to get good grip to clean metal. This may not need to be done with steel, but with lead its the only way to get it to stick for any amount of time at all.
