Back in the '70s my older brother had a '49 2wheel drive pickup. Plywood box on the back that he lived in. I wanted to film some 4x4s, so he took me up in the hills during the winter storms. (SF Bay area, rained like heck.)
He told me. "Those fat tires don't work at all in the mud. What you need is stock (thin) tires with chains." And then he went and showed me. All we had was those stock tires and a set of chains on the rear. We ran circles around everything out there! There was only one 4x4 that made it up to the top the road. I had all sorts of fun filming all the others sliding into ditches etc. We went up the road passing 4x4s like we were on pavement.
