In this case you are doing such small bursts of weld That it doesn't really affect it. Long beads and inside corner welding will pull once they cool. That is why I welded all the center on the big hole. It couldn't pull anything as it wasn't attached till just the edges were left.
Filling the cracks just took a lot of time as i'd let it come down to a reasonable temp before hitting the next burst.
Most of my stuff has been trial and error over the years and after a while you remember what works the best. LOL
