Just trying over the years. When I only had a stick welder I used an Inweld high nickle rod. Like I said in the album, something critical I'd preheat slowly and torch it back down. Some put it in an oven if it is small enough. Just depends what it is and going to be used for. This is basically just plugging a hole and not that critical.

Cast just can't take the quick cool down like mild steel can. that is what causes the cracks because of differing expansion rates. At least that is what I have found over the years. the teachers in classrooms may beg to differ. ;)
