Thanks, I have considered the chain approach and may do that, along with the clip-on chuck that Bruce mentioned.
I also thought about installing the tires onto their hubs inside-out, so if the ring pops off, it will hit the truck and not me.
I just didn't know if it was necessary to be worried about this or not. Since the rings and tires were well-seated and driven many years ago, I thought it might not be a concern to just refill them with air. But it's better to be safe than sorry....or dead.
