All the tests I see in the tech. manual are using the Army test bench thing. Are there possibly some way to do this with a digital multimeter? Possibly some ohm specs for the coils?

Also, how do people clean the armature & coils? The wrapping on my coils actually looks pretty good from the little I've seen so far. But I'd like to pull it all out to clean up everything and give the casing a coat of paint.

And I found the main issue. Looks like the pulley-side bearing is completely shot. At one point the ball retainer had broken and has been wearing itself down on the casing. One of the felt ends is missing as well. The rear bearing seems ok. I guess it got more oil in its lifetime.
