4-53 is *heavy*. Just for comparison sake, I expect it might be easier to swap in a 6BT than a 4-53, and I am a fan of the Detroits.
Checkout the 4BTSwaps site for the Detroit section and I have been told by another knowledgeable DD'er that the Detroit Diesel Enthusiasts group on FB is active.
The DetroitDiesel enthusiast group on YahooGroups is not very active anymore though it does remain a searchable repository of info about the two-stroke Detroits, including swap considerations.
