Way back when, Coca Cola used to have a chest type cooler at most service stations that was filled with chilled water. The bottles were held in a underwater racking system. You would put in your 10 or 15 cents and it would allow you to stick your hand in the chilled water and guide the glass bottle to the exit point of the rack. For various reasons, this dispenser system was replaced with a more efficient dispenser.

The reason these coolers are so hard to find these days is because someone discovered that the chest cooler could be easily converted to a great solvent tank. Its snug fitting lid minimized evaporation. The stations canabalized the coolers in droves until they were replaced years later with the solvent tank de jour.

Years later when I was working at a service station, I can remember cleaning wheel bearings and then using the air hose to see how fast I could get them to turn. That was probably the worst thing I could do to the bearing, but I was only 15 and dumber than most.

I know this has absoultly nothing to do with your question, but it stired a memory that I thought was worth sharing.

Best Wishes
Lonnie
