I have a 79 PW and LOVE it! I've spent a bunch of bucks on it, and still it's not perfect.
If you have a line on one, and it's a price you can live with, BUY IT! You'll love the full-time 4x4, especially if you drive the thing daily (like I do!)
Most of the folks here are into the "military-type" PW's, and some don't consider these trucks as "real" PW's, which is too bad, because for their era, these are still the best of the 4x4's around!
Parts are out there. The "wear" items mechanical parts can still be had by any parts store. The body parts start getting more difficult, especially for the step-side trucks. The imported replacement panels SUCK (though may be your only hope, so deal with it) and the patch panels work reasonably well.
Buy the truck, get your hands dirty, learn lots from here and other boards, and ENJOY!!!!
