Where I found wear in the front axle of my '77 was with the side gears and axle shafts. On day when pulling out some saplings something let go in the front axle. When I tore into it I found that the splines on the front axle shafts and the side gears gone I on side and wore to almost nothing. I ended up getting new/used shafts and gears. Removing the front drive shaft should take any "bind" out of the axle, but kind of takes the fun out of some short-notice 4-wheeling. Also if anyone is looking for the front wheel bearing assys try some where like Applied Industral, I priced some out and they were ALOT lower in price. I found this out a couple weeks after buying both sides at the normal parts store, ouch! I go there for all of my bearing and seal needs for the '41 WC. The down side is that you need the part# off the seal or bearing not the Dodge #, so you need to tear it apart b-4 you go to get the new one, you just can't tear it down Sat morning, get the part and put it back togather Sat afternoon.
