The 'turbo' mufflers are a decent compromise between being quiet yet not too restrictive. Turbo muffler is now quite a generic term, originally developed for the turbo Corvair. The cheap ones are available in 14" and 21" case. Get the 21", they're quieter. Also, where in the exhaust system you put the muffler has an effect on noise. The further away from the engine, less noise out the tailpipe. This is part of the reason you see mufflers all the way at the back of newer vehicles.
