Ok... but look at the lower rad hose as you rev it up;
Also, a 360 engine should have 34 degrees after the mechanical advance comes in. (Vacuum unplugged) Easy to check with a timing light that has an advance dial. Rev it to above 2500, and you should be at 34 degrees and no further.
Otherwise I would concur with the too lean theory...
