You probably have a lot of air in the system. Get a glass bottle, place it on the ground, fill 1/4 way with brake fluid, a rubber hose to fit the bleeder screw long enough to go to the bottom of the bottle. Open the bleeder screw and pump your brakes, check MC often, you don't want to pump in more air. Leave the bleeder screw open while you do this. It will pump out the air and suck in fluid. I start with the rear passenger side, then rear driver side and work my way to the left front driver wheel. Pump and fill the MC often till no more air comes out, close bleeder screw before you move to the next wheel. This will clear the system of air. Do replace the copper line, it's not an approved use for brake lines, if it fails, and you're in an accident, you can figure out the rest.
