With proper care and coating of belt dressing, they held up well. Their biggest enemy is neglect, the elements, and in some cases, critters. They were just not designed to lay in a fence row for decades.

If you cannot read the print, the fourth paragraph says: "The Rockwood Paper Drive Pulley has a solid paper belt surface, with thousands of little tough end-grain fibers which are built into the pulley itself. It transmits more power and steadier power. It will outwear, twice over, any "covered" pulley."
