all the closed knuckle front ends I have taken apart have the bronze cone on top. i.e. dana44s, 60s, 70s, in ford, IH and Dodge. It spreads the load out better and is more stable than the bearing. most the weight is on the lower one anyway. I always run the bronze cones. NOS preferably.
