They wear better than bearings. Unlike wheel bearings there is very limited rotation and a lot of shock so the thought was that the races could get beat up if bearings were used in the upper knuckle. Having said that, I put bearings in my truck as many people in this forum have. The knuckles do turn easier with bearings. I have seen no issues with using bearings.
