I've been looking at the TM9-1808 manunal for a while now. Seems to me that the positions of the outer races for the trunnion bearings & bushings are set by their end caps. There is no lip anywhere to seat these races on. So, following logic here, I should start them into their holes but use the end caps to draw them into position. Top end cap has the shims under it to keep it backed off some for setting preload.

If I get the preload too tight, not enough shims, I'm assuming I remove the top end cap and bash down on the knuckle casting to bring the top outer race out a little. Then try again with more shims.

Is my logic correct here? Are there pitfalls in this I should be mindful of?

Also, Does anyone up here in the PNW have one of the drifts used to bash in the front axle inner seals & bushings? I'm kinda' stuck here without one. I'd like to buy/borrow one. If all else fails I guess I could get one made up. Ughh!

Many thanks in advance!
