How is the filler neck mounted? If you can tilt it upward that should help.
Before I mounted the bed I noticed the same issue which was because the filler had a slight downward slope from the tank just due to the weight of the unit. Solution then was just to hold up the filler neck as I filled the tank.
When I test fitted the bed I had to move the filler opening slightly for the new tank anyway so I made sure to try and get it slightly higher to do the same thing.
