The last few days I have been hearing metal on metal on the rear brakes of my 09 Dodge 2500. I pulled the wheel today to put in new pads and when took the caliper off I saw that one of the caliper pistons was broken off at the point it contacts the pad.
I got on the phone and called the few local parts stores that are open Sunday, no luck on the first 4 places I called, then called Napa and they had the caliper. They were closing in 10 minutes but we did the transaction over the phone and Hr told me to leave the core in the box under their picnic table. I am over half an hour from this store, so they were long gone when I arrived. I opened the box and compared it to my core, it was right, Awesome! I saw that the new one also had the bracket that the caliper bolts to, that the pads ride in. I hadnt brought that piece, so made a mental note to get it back to them. I got home and installed the caliper and new shoes, bled them out and on to the next side to install the other pads. Got the caliper unbolted from the slider pins and saw that the lower pin was frozen/ Tried to free it up and succeeded in snapping it off. By some bit of cosmic good fortune, the bracket I neglected to include in the core is the same on both sides! And bonus, both pins were moving free and easy!! So, the bracket that gets returned will have a snapped caliper pin and I have good rear brakes again!
