The late 1958 W100 used a full floating 6 bolt rear axle that matched the W200, D200, and D300. If he has an early serial than it's been swapped from one of the many vehicles that used that axle. Let me know the serial number of the truck and I'll check my books to see if that truck is before or after the switch. Better yet share a picture of the serial tag and I'll compare the section on the axle to known late 1958 W100s I have documented as well as checking the parts book.

I've always assumed the late 1958 W100 got the full floating rear due to the high failure rate of the semi floater found in the 1957 and early 1958 W100.
