I looks like it may be a deep-cover 9 & 5/8" such as was used in the ambulances (M43?).
If so, it's the cat's meow as far as modified drive line goes. These are used when going to a poly or other higher torque engine. The equal length axles mitigate the odds of shearing the short axle.
