As Kaegi says , the TM9-808 maintenance manual explains the reasoning behind the extensive use of internal - external shakeproof lock washers , and the tinned copper braid ground straps . Basically , unwanted interference for their own radio use , and unwanted enemy detection I assume . Section 06 , page 45.
