I actually just found some photos this afternoon, which I took as I disassembled my engine, so I saw exactly what you're talking about regarding the two seal types interfering with each other. For some reason, I remembered the type of seal I have as being farther forward in the block and cap, not on the very back portion, where they would interfere with the rear-type bolt-on seal.

I found a few photos showing the engine with the crankshaft and seal installed, and it looked like the rusty part of the crankshaft was just to the rear of the seal, but it's hard to tell for sure, and I couldn't tell if that was the 251 crankshaft or the 265 crankshaft. I may take the new seal to the machinist and see if he will test fit the seal and crank into the block.
