I have a 1968 W300 that was owned by the forest service and at least 2 fire departments before I found it. The wiring looks like a cluster of daddy-long-leg spiders.
I wasn't aware there was even a relay for the rear lights. Obviously I can't be of any help, but it is interesting to me to know that.
I installed a 100 amp alternator to help the charging system while plowing snow in the winter. This promptly blew out the amp gauge. I found one on ebay but the price was quite high so I just bypassed the gauge and added a volt meter.
