You know what I found was the cure for a First Gen that I owned...it had very low mile & everything was tight. It had new tires...but I put 9.00-16 power kings on it.
That truck...you could drive it all day...nothing...perfect but if I hit train tracks at an angle from perpendicular to the road...all hell would break loose! Like the wobble would get worse & worse until it felt like the truck was going to roll. The only cure...carefully slow almost to a stop.
So I had that truck at a friends shop on his alignment rack & it was perfect. Only problem...caster was at .5 on one wheel & -.5 on the other! NFG
So it's not adjustable & I refuse to use wedges up front.
I took the Dana 60 out & had a friend mill 5 degrees of slope into the pads. I forget what dodge recommends on the first gen...like 2 degrees or something but new vehicles commonly run 6 & so since I've never driven a first gen that steers well, I decided to go more than dodges recommended angle.
It completely changed the truck. It rode like a 2017 dodge. Like you could just take your hands off the wheel for 60 seconds on the hwy.
You just have to imagine a bicycle or motorcycle...imagine how it would drive with the fork angle at zero?
It fixed my issues & I do it to every first gen I own now but that said...start by making sure nothing is loose & go from there. It's worth the $100 to get someone to put it on an alignment machine & I only go to a shop that will give me the digital read out from their machine.
A tape measure worked in 1950 but it doesn't work on my truck.
