I, too, have an appt with the neurologist next month - an L3 issue also. Numbness, pain, tingling… no fun at all.
I had a laminectomy at L4 and L5 about 16 years ago. This was after putting up with a nasty bout of sciatica for maybe two years, during which time I tried chiropractic care, acupuncture, injections of various kinds, etc etc, none of which did much to relieve the (sometimes) intense pain.
The surgery fixed it: I had only a very minor and occasional numbness in the right extremity for many years.
So I'm hoping that the result will be similar with this L3 issue. And as for pain medication? I'll take whatever works, and I don't give a **** what anyone thinks about it. The fact that there is an epidemic of addiction to opiates is not my problem, and I resent the idea that people who are suffering intense pain should have to jump through hoops to get relief because other people decide to abuse these drugs.
OK, I feel better now...
