I recently brought my 64' WM300 home and started an autopsy. While I'm waiting on tools/parts to get the brakes operational, I noticed that it had a vacuum power brake setup but no master cylinder. Seems that is a non issue because it appears that the MC is a readily available part.
I haven't tried to turn the engine over because I plan to dump the Acetone/ATF mixture down the plug holes. I realized that I wasn't going to turn it over electrically because NO starter. I took a quick look on Rock Auto and some other sites and they show a 3 bolt starter. My bellhousing only has 2 bolt holes??? Ironically they show a 2 bolt starter for one with an automatic transmission. Now I'm really lost. I looked at the code on the block to see if there had been an engine swap and it has a number which may be a 1968 251ci. The number begins with WCO25123********.
I plan to see if the engine will turn over. If it does I'll be looking for a starter. If not I'll cut my losses and consider other engine options.
Just optimistically looking ahead with the ASSumption that the engine will turn over. How do I start to identify the missing starter??
Thanks.
Sincerely,
-jerry-
