Rub a thin layer of ivory bar soap where the metal touches the seal.
Don't know where I heard that bar soap is good for gas leaks. Can't vouch for it personally but let's test it out on your truck - then I'll know, since I'm doing the same thing in my B2 this weekend. Cheap aftermarket rock auto Ford tank/sending unit going into mine so I'm anticipating leaks. :)
