I originally planned that I would make the paint all perfect and beautiful, but being new to all this that was never going to happen, and honestly I'm good with that now for the same reason you sited, if it were perfect I'd be afraid to use it, which defeats the purpose.
I've read of many that chased a better, nicer, improved vehicle, and then become too attached or invested to want to enjoy it the way they originally planned once they finished. Many end up selling it to someone else, and often those people are going to do what you wanted to, use it, since they aren't so vested in that perfection.
I can't tell you what to do, it's a personal decision and I'm not the one who put the time, money, and sweat into making it as pretty as it is. But for me and my truck part of the reason for all the conversions and modifications is so that hopefully it can go on doing what it was built to do for another 70 years, and that makes me smile as much as the pretty blue paint.
