So here is "The Girl Scout Truck" which by now most of you know my Girl Scout Troop rebuilt the engine on. I am very proud of them for doing it and I am very pleased with how the rest of the truck came out as well. Other than the paint and minimal body work, I did the rest of the work.
Here is the rub. I do not know how to own a flashy truck! I am a carpenter by trade. I cant throw a tool box in the bed, cant haul plywood or other building materials, its pretty useless, except for driving around. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy driving it around. My former Flat Fender Power Wagon and my M37 are both workhorses, and that felt right.
The other and actually bigger issue I have is all of the attention the truck gets. I didn't mind that at the Iowa Rally (its "debut") as praise from a fellow Power Wagon owner like a peer review, it has weight. When someone at a gas station, drawn by the shiny paint comes over and asks"what year is it?" it feels shallow. I feel like answering 2016, as it is really the paint that attracted them so I should tell hem how old the paint is. I have seen other PW owners deal with the attention differently. Some really love it and will attract a crowd and go on and on about their truck, history of Power Wagons etc etc. I am always polite, but really do not enjoy these interactions. It is almost to the point of dreading driving it knowing people will want to talk about it. I am not a flashy extroverted person, maybe a flashy truck is not the right truck for me. Or, I need to just get over it and embrace the attention (shudder). What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Tim
