I think longer cap screws would work fine. I happen to have one of Ray's P/S brackets here. I'll look it over and see what I can come up with. Did he use a Ford P/S box because it had a wider pulley?
I'm out of town this weekend, but I can probably look at this next week. What's one more thing added to the list, right?
