Sounds like the steering box is way out of adjustment. Maybe it was not centered when the slop was taken out. The adjustment could have been made to tight and you are now trashing the gears steering it. Jack the wheels up and work on the adjustment of the steering box and see if you can make it turn better and more. Has to be centered to adjust it right for feel. If you adjust the play to tight the box is hard to turn. If the gears are wore out or bad you can't just fix it thru adjustments just make a little more slop go away.
